The Acropolis

While Michael was at work I went to see the Acropolis again, the quintissential masterpiece of Athens. It's over 3,000 years old, but is still (mostly) standing, a tribute to the architectural excellence of the time. It actually was in quite better shape until the 1600s when it got bombed extensively. Even so, it's breathtaking every time. It is perpetually under reconstruction, with new marble being used to supplement the old marble for pieces that have been lost over time.

Approach to the Acropolis after you come out of the metro.

An ancient theatre at the foot of the Acropolis that is still used for performances.

I love this view.

In the middle on the left you can see a piece of new marble that's been stacked on top of the old marble to rebuild the center column.

The big hill is Lycavetos hill.

Always under construction!

At a party with Michael!

It was a good party.

The host, Agapi.

Greeks!
